C# Excel Task Pane Access in Edit Mode

I am scratching my head with this one. How do I access the Task Pane UI (buttons etc) when I am in edit mode in Excel. It seems when I am in edit mode, the custom taskpane UI is blocked. Other than putting my controls on the ribbon (which is not possible due to DGV), I can't think of any other way.

So far, I have tried MouseEnter, MouseHover to no avail. Suggestions are welcome.
