SSIS Excel destination thick gridlines when sheet is protected

I ran into a strange SSIS issue:

• writing to an unprotected Excel sheet does not change the thickness of the gridlines


• However writing to the same Excel sheet but now protected does change the thickness of the gridlines into very thick lines

I have no idea why this happens, it seems like a bug.
